From Kate:

Can You Do That?

Thu, 15/02/2018 - 15:57
Usually I write about how mobility challenged people can continue to travel.  But I had a phone call this week from someone wanting to travel to Europe with a few friends.  Not unusual.  The person goes on to tell me “my friends have all had knee replacements, hip replacements and other physical issues that could Continue Reading

European River Cruises

Thu, 25/01/2018 - 16:22
European river cruises are fast becoming the best way to see Europe and mature travelers love river cruising.  I’ll distinguish between river cruises because there are ships that cruise rivers in Europe, United States, China and Vietnam.  All very different experiences so for now I’ll focus on my experiences with European River Cruises. Most of Continue Reading

Do You Want to be an Armchair Traveler?

Sat, 30/12/2017 - 16:29
As a mobility challenged traveler, when planning to travel anywhere, I ask myself a lot of questions.  How am I preparing for this trip?  Not who, what, when or when but how.  How am I going to manage any physical obstacles associated with this trip? Stairs, cobblestones, getting on/off motorcoaches, unfamiliar rest rooms, taking care Continue Reading

Kate Approved: Strategy

Thu, 30/11/2017 - 14:31
I miss those “freewheeling” “let’s just see what happens” kind of trips.  The ones where you start out the day just seeing where it goes – you may have done that kind of trip at one time.  I did.  But not anymore; I need a travel strategy.  Actually I need a life strategy but here Continue Reading

Kate Approved: Acceptance

Two places in the world that have always captured my attention:  The Blarney Stone and the Taj Mahal.  Yeah, I know pretty disparate interests but these are my places.  Everybody gets to have their own places and these are mine. In my life, I’ve been pretty lucky to see both of these places.  My way Continue Reading

Kate Approved: Group Land Travel

Wed, 01/11/2017 - 15:18
In almost any place you want to visit there is an escorted group going to that place. Will traveling with an escorted group work for you?  Just as with independent travel, there are lots of variables to group travel but here are some Pros and Cons. Group Pros:  efficient way to see a destination; points Continue Reading

Kate Approved: Independent Land Travel

Wed, 25/10/2017 - 18:02
Travel can be land, air and sea.  Lots of other subdivisions but for right now I’m talking about land travel.  For the moment, let’s set aside the trip you make to Aunt Minnie’s for the family reunion and focus on the trip you’ve wanted to take for years to the place you have never been.  Continue Reading

Kate Approved: Traveling with a Partner

Thu, 19/10/2017 - 14:40
When you acknowledge that you have some “issues” in mobility, hearing, medical or just getting older, I strongly suggest you travel with another person.  In my case, I am fortunate to a have a great husband who is most often my traveling partner.  But I have traveled with a sibling, colleague or friend, someone who Continue Reading

Kate Approved: I Made a Mistake…

Thu, 14/09/2017 - 17:54
Yep, even a travel professional can make a mistake and this was truly my mistake. On our last cruise vacation, we arrived in Miami this night before the cruise departed.  So far, so good.  It was an early evening flight, so we didn’t arrive at the hotel until almost 9 PM and this was the Continue Reading

Good Wheelchairs, Bad Wheelchairs

Mon, 28/08/2017 - 15:25
All airport wheelchair services are not created equal.  Many airports subcontract their wheelchair services to outside companies.  Some airports have the major carriers provide the wheelchair services at their gates.  For instance, Paris subcontracts service; Montreal does not. After six wonderful days in Paris, we encountered the worst wheelchair service in 20 years of travel.  Continue Reading
